Exo Terra Calcium Powder Supplement

Overview

What it is and who it suits

Exo Terra Calcium Powder is a finely milled dietary supplement formulated specifically for reptiles and amphibians kept in terrariums, designed to address one of the most common nutritional gaps in captive herp care. Calcium is essential for proper bone density, muscle contraction, nerve function, and eggshell formation in gravid females, yet most feeder insects like crickets, mealworms, and roaches are naturally low in this mineral relative to phosphorus. By lightly dusting feeder insects or fresh produce with this powder before offering them to your pet, keepers can correct that imbalance and help prevent serious conditions such as metabolic bone disease, which remains one of the leading health issues seen in pet lizards, geckos, turtles, and tortoises.

The powder itself is lightweight, easy to handle, and designed to cling well to the exoskeletons of live insects or the surface of chopped vegetables, ensuring the supplement is actually consumed rather than left behind in the enclosure. Exo Terra offers formulations both with and without vitamin D3, giving keepers flexibility depending on their reptile's UVB lighting setup; animals housed under adequate UVB exposure can often rely on a D3-free version since their bodies synthesize vitamin D naturally, while those in lower-light setups may benefit from the D3-inclusive formula to aid calcium absorption. This adaptability makes the product suitable for a wide range of species, from bearded dragons and leopard geckos to chameleons, skinks, and aquatic turtles.

Packaged in a resealable container to preserve freshness and prevent moisture clumping, Exo Terra Calcium Powder is intended for regular, consistent use as part of a broader feeding and supplementation routine rather than as an occasional treatment. Most keepers find that a light dusting at each feeding, or a few times a week depending on the species and life stage, provides a steady source of calcium without overloading the animal's system. As part of the larger Exo Terra product ecosystem, which includes terrarium substrates, lighting, and habitat décor, this calcium supplement reflects the brand's focus on supporting naturalistic, science-based husbandry practices that help captive reptiles and amphibians thrive long-term.
